Welcome to Rands Fjord

This unique shelter is situated in a protected area of approximately 1,000 hectares surrounding Rands Fjord, rich of natural and cultural history. Up until the 1970s, there was significant industrial activity in the form of diatomaceous earth extraction from the nearby lake. One lake is located 100 meters from the shelter site, near the birdwatching tower. However, the lake is privately owned, so it can only be viewed from the road.

250 meters from the shelter site, you’ll find a birdwatching tower. With a bit of patience, you will likely be able to spot a pair of sea eagles soaring over the fjord. We know the female sea eagle, as she was born in Solkær Enge in Kolding in 2010. She is ringed, which allows us to identify her. The sea eagle has been in Rands Fjord since 2012 and has raised 13 fledglings to date.
