Remarkable Nature and Birdlife
The Birkholm shelters offer the unique opportunity of spending the night in the heart of the archipelago. The two modern shelters can accommodate a total of 9 people (5 and 3-4 respectively). If the shelters are occupied, there is a campsite nearby. The campsite does not have to be booked in advance, but is paid to the harbour master. You can make a bonfire at the beach (remember, however, to show consideration and leave the beach as you found it).
Notice that Birkholm is an island, so unless you have a boat, kayak or other means to transport yourself to and from Birkholm, the only option is to use the postal ferry from Marstal. Booking a trip on the ferry can be done from here. Please notice, that the ferry doesn’t sail on sundays and public holidays when you are planning your trip.
