Explore the old gravel pit
The leisure area called Bavnehøj Fritidsområde is a part of a partially depleted gravel pit, and over the years it has become a beautiful nature area with rich flora and fauna. Angling is permitted in the southernmost lake, where you can enjoy the view of steep gravel cliffs and the many different layers of soil. If you’re lucky, then you might even come across ancient fossils!
While you’re exploring the area, the locals offer that you can borrow one of six activity sets for your outdoors adventures. The sets each have their own theme: Bugs, water, health, stars, fish and mixed. To rent the boxes, there is a 50 DKK fee, as well as a 500 DKK deposit, which you’ll get back after returning it. Get inspiration for your adventures
Bavnehøj Fritidsområde is located directly on the adventure rute, Naturlandet Rundt, and is close to many other exciting routes. Munkevejen (Monk’s Road), Den Danske Klosterruter (The Danish Monastery Route) and the national cycle route 7 all go by right by the area. Additionally, Bavnehøj Fritidsområde has its own recreational trail going all the way around the gravel pits, which you can follow on foot, bicycle or horseback. A bit further away, you’ll find the Santiago Pilgrim route which goes through the nearby village Nørre Vedby, but turns away just before Bavnehøj.
