VESTER HÆSINGE TOWN

The village of Vester Hæsinge lies at the foot of Svanninge Bakker in very scenic surroundings that are ideal for walking and cycling. Take a trip along the countless lilac hedgerows, through meadows, marshes, and forests and over the many hills, and nature will simply come to you. The area offers a wide range of wildlife, so do keep your eyes open for cranes, sea eagles, red kites, deer and many other species.

Traces of local history can be found all over the place, e.g. Sandholt Manor, see www.sandholtgods.dk  and the various churches, see www.vesterhaesingekirke.dk.

There’s much to explore in the area. Leave the main road and follow byroads meandering through delightful villages with much to look at. Forests and hills around Trente Mill, an old water mill that’s now a nature school. North of Trente Mølle and through the forest, you’ll find a stupa (Buddhist place of meditation). The stupa is open to visitors, but tread respectfully. It’s a religious building and privately owned. The churches in Sandholt’s Lyndelse and Vester Hæsinge are also worth a visit. VH church has recently been restored and a local artist has contributed with two large murals.

Close to the town in rural surroundings at Vestergade 19, you’ll find a kindergarten, Kaptajngården (Captain’s Farm). The kindergarten was established in 1990 as an alternative to conventional kindergartens and over the years it has offered local children ample opportunity for exploring Nature and getting close farm animals. You’re welcome to visit, pet a pig, or enjoy a swing in the garden.
