Håstrup bypark – Ørbæklund was established in 2007 by local villagers. In addition to the many facilities in the form of shelters, picnic pavilion, training pavilion etc., an essential part of the project involved establishing nature trails in the area.  A stream, Ørbækken, was restored first. The source of the stream is a small spring to the east of this site. The water used to flow through the area underground in a pipeline, but in connection with creating the park, the stream was allowed to flow free on the surface again and it now emerges from right under the picnic pavilion.

Another major part of the project was restoring a pond in the area. Water from the creek is led through the pond which has become a small nature oasis. There’s already an abundant fish life in the pond, e.g. crucian carp and goldfish. In winter, local children and youngsters use the pond for ice skating.

A large number of trees and bushes have been planted and they’re gradually transforming the area into a small grove. Trees and bushes already provide ample cover from the wind Even today, the trees and bushes provide good cover around the shelter site. Several paths have been built and benches placed for visitors to sit down and enjoy the lovely  surroundings.

In summer you can see plenty of insects in the area which is gradually turning into a common. Small Tortoiseshells, Meadow Browns, and Small Heath are seen flying in the area while the pond attracts a good number of dragonflies.
