Naturskolen shelter site
This site with two shelters close to each other is located close to Maribo Nature School, beautifully surrounded by trees, bushes and scrub. It’s only a few metres down to Søndersø with a bird hide and views across to Hestø. You will often see sea eagles soaring over the lake. You are welcome to take a walk in the Nature School’s flowering meadows or use the bridge to catch a fish for dinner. Drinking water and toilets are available at the Nature School. If you arrive by canoe or kayak, you can moor just below the Nature School.

Maribo is only 2.3 kilometres away along the nature trail, which passes close by the Nature School. If you head east, there are good path connections to Søholt Storskov as well as Hejrede and Røgbølle Lake, with good opportunities to experience the Maribo Lakes Nature Park. You can also choose to take the railway path to Rødbyhavn and the south coast of Lolland, where other exciting experiences await.

In May and June, you can enjoy the sound of nightingales singing from the thickets by the lakeside. The small, discreet bird can sing loudly most of the night and sometimes even during the day. You can also fish in Søndersø, which is famous for pike fishing. We also have a Wild Food Trail on the Nature School grounds, so you can spice up your evening meal with exciting wild herbs.

Note: During humid periods in the summer, there can be a lot of mosquitoes on this site.
