This shelter is located in one of Trente Mill’s most open areas and has a truly amazing view of a clearing where a great many butterflies abound, grasshoppers sing, and wasp spiders lurk in the tall grass. Less than 50 metres from the shelter is one of Trente Mill’s campfire huts built in 2010. It is fitted with a stationary grill, a wood-burning baking oven, and a proper table/bench set. So if you are into freshly baked morning rolls, this is the perfect shelter for you. If you come here in autumn, you will find plenty of blackberries in the area so how about making a little blackberry jam to go with your rolls?

Gyveltorp is the second of the shelters we built at Trente Mill in the winter of 2010, designed and developed in cooperation with Danish Nature Agency’s architect, DTE – Håstrup, and Trente Mill. Just as the other Trente Mill shelters, this one is also included in the Danish Nature Agency’s shelter programme, which is part of the design manual “Small Houses in the Forest”. The shelters are made of Douglas fir and painted black on the outside while the natural colour of the wood has been retained on the inside. Around the side, there is a broad edge that is perfect to sit on.

With only 300 metres to the Archipelago Trail and 250 metres to Trente Mill with its public toilet, access to water, Kiss the Frog activity centre (‘Kys Frøen’), and fishing opportunities, this shelter is the obvious choice when hiking the Archipelago Trail or if you are a family with children looking for a shelter that offers plenty of activities to choose from.

Water and WC
There is a public toilet at Trente Mill 250 metres from the shelter. You can also get water there.

Campfire and firewood
A very short distance from the shelter there is a campfire hut with a stationary grill. Feel free to gather dead firewood from the forest floor. Axe and saw are available.
