This shelter is situated deep in the forest and it’s somewhere you can really get away from it all, hidden away among tall trees as it is. The shelter is surrounded by old larches and other species of coniferous trees. There are clear signs of damage after the storm in 1999 which brought down large parts of the forest. Now an exciting new forest which is a mixture of coniferous and deciduous trees is emerging.
This shelter is one whose name is written down in the great book of shelters! The first shelter was built in the winter of 2010, designed and developed in close cooperation between the Danish Nature Agency’s architect, DTE – Håstrup, and Trente Mill in order to become part of the Danish Nature Agency’s shelter programme, which is included in the design manual: “Small Houses in the Forest”. The shelter is made of Douglas fir which is painted black on the outside but has retained its natural colour inside. In front of the shelter there is a solid table with seating and a place for a campfire encircled by larch tree trunks on which you can sit watching the fire.
With just 300 metres to the Archipelago Trail and 400 metres to Trente Mill where you’ll find a public toilet, access to water, Kiss the Frog activity centre, and fishing opportunities, this shelter is an obvious choice when you are hiking the Archipelago Trail or if you are a family with children looking for a shelter that offers plenty of activities to choose from.
Situated at Trente Mill’s public camp ground, ”Mellem Lærkene” (Amidst the larches) you can also bring a tent.
